Every New Year's Day, my family and I go to pray at Gokuko Shrine (Jinja), which is located in Onoyama Park in Naha City.

This was my 18th year to pray for a good year at Gokuko Shrine on New Year's Day.

There were thousands of people waiting for their turn to pray at Gokoku Shrine.

There is an offering box for people to throw their coins into. Normally, people bow twice, clap their hands twice, pray, bow once, and leave.

Most people like to buy their fortune. These small strips of paper are 100 yen and higher.

Many people also like to buy lucky charms.

Wishing for you to have a happy, healthy and safe 2018 - from the Pickard family of Okinawa!
