Hello! April is the start of the new academic year here in Japan!
Every April with my new 1st year students I have a very special English listening comprehension lesson using the song "Hello Goodbye" by The Beatles.
As an English language teacher (ELT) and as an amateur musician, I truly believe using music in the English language classroom is an incredible way to help English language students improve their English language skills. And, in this lesson, their English listening comprehension skills.
Additionally, most students become more motivated when music - especially pop music - is used in the English language classroom.
I also believe as a teacher of English as a foreign language (TEFL) that it is vital to teach English language students that the English language is everywhere and not only in the classroom.
Watch the legendary Beatles perform "Hello Goodbye" on YouTube now!
Below are the lyrics to "Hello Goodbye" by the Beatles...
Hello Goodbye (ハロー・グッドバイ) The Beatles (ビートルズ) Composed by (ソングライター): John Lennon / Paul McCartney
You say yes,
I say no You say stop
and I say go go go, oh no You say goodbye
and I say hello Hello hello I don't know why you say goodbye,
I say hello Hello hello I don't know why you say goodbye,
I say hello
I say high,
you say low You say why
and I say I don't know,
oh no You say goodbye
and I say hello Hello hello I don't know why you say goodbye,
I say hello Hello hello I don't know why you say goodbye,
I say hello
Why why why why why why do you say goodbye goodbye?
oh no You say goodbye
and I say hello Hello hello I don't know why you say goodbye,
I say hello Hello hello I don't know why you say goodbye,
I say hello
You say yes (I say yes)
I say no (But I may mean no) You say stop (I can stay)
and I say go go go (Till it's time to go),
oh Oh…
I hope you enjoy this English language lesson. If you would like to study the English language with me, come to LIFE Jr. College in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan.
Goodbye!
