This weekend I finished another one of my electric guitar repair and restoration projects.

This particular electric is a PhotoGenic Stratocaster-type in a candy apple red color. It's a really nice color.

It was manufactured with a matching candy apple red headstock. Looks great!

It was originally meant to be a very affordable guitar for entry level guitar players. Thus, it was manufactured with mostly inexpensive components.

For example, these tuning machines come stock on this guitar as well as many other electric guitars in the same price range.

In addition to the tuning pegs, the other hardware - bridge / tremolo system, strap buttons, output jack plate, etc. - is all standard on most entry-level and many mid-range guitars.

Originally I found this electric labeled as "junk" in a local recycle shop (or thriftstore) near my home here in Okinawa, Japan.

When I first saw this guitar it was incredibly filthy. I don't mind cleaning up a guitar. It is a lot of work, but the end result is always worth it.

Also, two of the potentiometer shafts were broken off, so both of the control knobs, which are normally attached to the potentiometer shafts, were missing.

At the shop I plugged this guitar into an amp to test it. When I turned the third knob the potentiometer shaft broke off right in my hand and it was stuck in the knob.

Also, the middle pickup didn't make any sound. So I knew I would have to replace all three potentiometers, all three pickups, and the middle pickup.

It was a lot of work to clean and polish this guitar - especially the frets and the fretboard - in addition to wiring in the replacement pickup and potentiometers. Of course I put on a new set of electric guitar strings and gave this a proper string setup.

Now that this guitar repair and restoration project is at an end it is time for me to find a good home for it. I'll sell this used guitar for cheap to somebody who really wants to spend the learning to play the guitar.

I love guitars (especially bass guitars). I love playing guitars and repairing old guitars. Guitars are cool! It's my hobby to save as many old guitars from being thrown out. I hope to make more and more guitars available to new guitar players to get started in their guitar learning experience. The world sure could use more musicians. Musicians make music and music makes the world happier. Peace! Take care!

UPDATE: This electric guitar has been sold. A teenage boy bought it from me. I hope he keeps working at it and improves as time goes by. I'm very glad there will be a new generation of guitarists.
