I recently finished repairing the restoring this Precision Bass (P Bass)-style electric bass guitar. This particular bass guitar is marketed with the brand Photo Genic or Photogenic. On some other used guitars and basses that I have seen I occasionally see the name as Photogenic by Maison. If I recollect correctly Maison is a guitar brand from Korea amongst many.

I originally found this bass guitar in the junk section at one of the many recycle shops (i.e., thrift stores, secondhand store). I bought it for cheap because there were broken parts.

I spent a lot of time cleaning a polishing this bass, so now it looks much nicer and presentable. In fact I think this bass guitar looks great.

I replaced some of the electronic components (potentiometers, capacitors, etc.) and checked all of the electrical connections. So, now, everything works fine.

The P-style humbucking pickup sounds good.

I also put on a new set of bass guitar strings and gave this electric a proper setup.

I had to level the frets. After levelling the frets I crowned them and soothed out the ends and edges. After that I polished the frets to make them smooth and shinny. Of course I oiled the rosewood fretboard because it was rather dried out. Now, the neck of this bass guitar looks good and feels good in the fingering hand.

Part of the guitar setup include a truss rod adjustment to give proper relief (a slight bow) in the neck. Following the truss rod adjustment I adjusted each individual string saddle in the bridge to lower each individual string as low as possible without fretting out or creating string buzz. Follow the saddle adjustments I checked adjusted the intonation of each individual string.

This electric bass guitar did not have any top name brand components. In fact, I am fairly certain that this electric bass was build entirely in China. Often times too many people imagine that "Made in China" means low quality, but that simply is not true anymore. In fact tons of products of many top brands are made in China.

I was very glad that I did not have to refinish this bass guitar. To properly refinish any type of guitar is very time consuming and difficult.

The humbucker pickup had a good reading of 9.1k on the multimeter. That is not a super hot or loud rating, but 9.1 is still damn good for a variety of music genres.

As with many if not most electric guitars I applied conductive aluminum in the cavity for the pickup and the electronics in addition to the back of the pickguard. This is called shielding, which blocks out or reducing the amount of outside electrical interference. Doing all of this helps to stop or lessen the amount of hum (loud humming noise).
I already have many electric guitars and bass guitars. However, I simply love guitars especially electric bass guitars. When I see a broken or unwanted guitar at a thrift-store or secondhand shop I simply less sorry for that guitar. And, so, I want to take it home, nurse back to health (repair), and find it a good home.
I will continue to search for broken and/or unwanted electric guitars, repairing them to be playable again, cleaning and polishing them to look nice again, and finding good new owners for them.
I hope an increasing amount of people come to realize just how special guitars and basses are. All guitars are wonderful musical instruments, which are like works of art. Interestingly guitars are works of art that are used to create art (music).
The world needs more music because music is certainly one of the most wonderful things in the universe. To have more music there will need to be more musicians and they will need more musical instruments.
UPDATE: This electric bass guitar has been sold. A teenage girl bought it from me. I hope she keeps working at it and improves. I'm very glad there will be a new generation of bassists.
