Happy Halloween! I'm Mark Pickard - English Department Chief at Senmon Gakkou LIFE Jr. College in Okinawa, Japan.

Check out all of these photos I took recently of the 2019 Happy Halloween Party at Senmon Gakkou LIFE Jr. College here in Okinawa, Japan.

I have been working as an English language teacher here in Okinawa, Japan for the past 19 years. Primarily I have been teaching at Senmon Gakkou, which are vocational training colleges.

Being an American I like to host Halloween parties in my English classes every year. There are many reasons why I like to host Halloween parties in my English classes.

The main reason for having Halloween parties in my English classes is to share some American culture with my students here in Okinawa, Japan. Year after year I discover that my students do not know much if anything of Halloween in the United States. Hosting Halloween parties in my English classes is a great way for me to let my students to experience some of aspect of American culture.

Prior to the Halloween party we spend some time making Halloween decorations, which we use to decorate for the Halloween party. Often times this is the first time for make Halloween decorations for nearly ever single one of my students here in Okinawa, Japan.

Another good reason I like to have Halloween parties in my English classes is that I want my students to have some good occasionally. After all, my students study hard and long day after day. Having some sort of special activity or event each month such as a Halloween party helps to brighten up my students emotions. Also, having fun and interesting activities/events in my classes helps to motivate my students to study harder and more in their English classes.

The act of studying is often times an isolated experience even though students study together in a classroom. Therefore, I have tried my best to create activities and events to help promote fellowship and friendship. My Halloween parties are just one example of how I try to promote togetherness and unity in my English lessons. Thus, I include many group games in my Halloween parties.

Another reason for me having a Halloween party every year in my English classes is to help my students have good memories of the school life. Senmon Gakkou LIFE Jr. College in Okinawa, Japan is a wonderful for many reasons, so I want our students to have good memories of studying at LIFE Jr. College. Hopefully, our students will often times reflect positively on their experiences here at our college.

Photographs and videos are a good way to help students to recall the Halloween party and these types of activities and events at Senmon Gakkou LIFE Jr. College. However, photos and videos are also an excellent way to inform the general public of our college. Therefore, I like to take many photographs and some videos during these types for activities and events. The Halloween party is one of many activities and events at LIFE Jr. College. We use such photos and videos on our official website as well as on various types social media. Hopefully, our neighbors here in Okinawa, Japan will become more familiar with us at LIFE Jr. College.

Now, I hope you have become a little more familiar with what I have been doing for a living here in Okinawa, Japan. And, more so, I hope you become a little more familiar with Senmon Gakkou LIFE Jr. College (専門学校ライフジュニアカレジ) in (沖縄県).
